Camp Shelby Update

Hey everyone,
Just want to give everyone an update on what’s been going on for myself in the last month here at the lovely Camp Shelby. We have been staying pretty busy with training and everything that needs to get done before we get into country. The first week or so was consumed by medical screenings and getting all of our shots up to date. We also spent a lot of time getting new gear and equipment that is needed for Afghanistan.(Your tax dollars hard at work).
We have done many ranges on all the weapon systems to become qualified to use them in country. There is a lot of hurry up and wait as is the norm in the military. With all the people down here its hard to get all the range time that we need. We haven’t had any luck with internet. They do have a internet “cafe” with 20  old computers that don’t always work or the line to use them is way to long. I’m glad I have my blackberry to be able to use a very overwhelmed and overused broadband internet. This place is a big black hole.
We are staying down here 2 more weeks until the 16th and then bussing out to Ft. Irwin in California for 4 weeks of scenario training. Here they will have villages and role players that will help us train for  many different realistic scenarios. Once we finish there we will buss back to Camp Shelby, Miss. We will then be released to go on a 4 day pass on the 18th of Oct. Nicole and Brinn are planning to come down for the pass!!!!!
So that’s the news from Camp Shelby! Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers and to everyone who has sent me cards and packages especially Jesse for sending Joel and I a bunch of really nice gear that makes are lives much easier! Pls don’t send anything else we will be jumpin around a lot and mail might not catch up with us. I will be sure to give Nicole the address as soon as I get it for our FOB overseas.
Love you all.
Jono
